Code of Conduct

A safe and harassment-free environment for everyone

1. Purpose

MadVue is a Vue.js conference held in Madrid that brings together developers, speakers, sponsors and volunteers from around the world. Our purpose is to share knowledge and experiences about Vue.js and modern web development in a welcoming, collaborative environment.

A primary objective of MadVue is to be inclusive to the largest number of participants, regardless of gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, ability, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, age, religion (or lack thereof), or any other personal characteristic.

This Code of Conduct outlines our expectations for everyone who participates in MadVue, as well as the consequences for unacceptable behavior. We invite all attendees, speakers, sponsors, volunteers and organizers to help us create a safe and positive experience for everyone.

2. A respectful environment

A complementary goal of this Code of Conduct is to strengthen civility within the Vue.js and broader open-source community, encouraging participants to recognize the relationship between our actions and their effect on those around us.

Topics within MadVue revolve around Vue.js, frontend development and the wider tech ecosystem. Anyone who takes the floor — whether on stage, in a workshop, at a sponsor booth or in a hallway — is welcome to do so as long as they respect the opinions of others and abide by this Code of Conduct.

If you see someone making a real effort to make MadVue more welcoming, friendly and inclusive, we want to hear about it.

3. Expected behavior

The following behaviors are expected of every member of the MadVue community:

  • Participate authentically and actively. By doing so, you contribute to the health and longevity of this community.
  • Show consideration and respect in your speech and actions.
  • Try to collaborate before entering into conflict.
  • Refrain from degrading, discriminatory or harassing behavior and language.
  • Be mindful of your surroundings and of fellow participants. Alert an organizer if you notice a dangerous situation, someone in distress, or a violation of this Code of Conduct — even if it seems minor.
  • Remember that the venues hosting MadVue may be shared with other people; please be respectful to all users of these facilities.

4. Unacceptable behavior

The following behaviors are considered harassment and are unacceptable at MadVue:

  • Violence, threats of violence or violent language directed against another person.
  • Sexist, racist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist or otherwise discriminatory jokes and language.
  • Posting or displaying sexually explicit or violent material, including in presentations, slides, speaker content or sponsor booths.
  • Posting or threatening to post other people's personally identifying information (doxing).
  • Personal insults, particularly those related to gender, sexual orientation, race, religion or disability.
  • Inappropriate photography or recording.
  • Inappropriate physical contact. You should have someone's consent before touching them.
  • Unwelcome sexual attention, including sexualized comments or jokes, inappropriate physical contact and unwelcome sexual advances.
  • Deliberate intimidation, stalking or following (online or in person).
  • Sustained, unwanted or inappropriate attention.
  • Advocating for or encouraging any of the above behaviors.
  • Continuously disrupting talks, workshops or other conference events.
  • Possession or use of illegal substances, or of any item that could be used as a weapon to harm others.
  • Retaliating against individuals who report (or attempt to report) any of the behaviors above.

5. Consequences of unacceptable behavior

Unacceptable behavior will not be tolerated from any participant, including attendees, speakers, sponsors, volunteers or organizers. Participants asked to stop unacceptable behavior are expected to comply immediately.

The measures taken in response to an infraction will depend on the context, and may include:

  • A warning for a minor infraction.
  • A warning along with a request to apologize to those affected.
  • Expulsion from the conference and related activities, without a refund.
  • A ban from future MadVue editions.

6. Reporting an incident

If you are subject to unacceptable behavior, or notice that someone else is, please notify a conference organizer or volunteer as soon as possible — they are easily identifiable through their conference badges. When reporting, please indicate where on the venue the incident is taking place and briefly describe its nature.

You can also reach the organizing team at hola@madvue.es. Organizers will help anyone affected by unacceptable behavior to feel safe, including assisting with contacting local authorities if needed. Confidentiality regarding both the existence of a report and its investigation will be maintained to the greatest extent possible.

7. How to appeal

If you believe you have been wrongly or unfairly accused of violating this Code of Conduct, please notify the organizers at hola@madvue.es with a concise description of your concern. It will be reviewed in accordance with these guidelines.

8. Scope

We expect every participant — attendees, speakers, sponsors, volunteers and organizers — to follow this Code of Conduct in all MadVue spaces, both physical and online (including social media, chat platforms and any other communication channels related to the conference).

This Code of Conduct also applies to unacceptable behavior that occurs outside MadVue when such behavior may affect the safety or well-being of members of our community.
